Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning together with the UNDP and UNIDO is planning to enhance capacity building of the industries in Vrbas and Kula, by implementing the Cleaner Production (CP) Project for the interested industries. In this respect, the initial presentation of pilot project "Cleaner production" was organized in Belgrade, on November 11th 2008. Participants were from the Municipality of Vrbas, representatives from Vrbas industries, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Secretariat for Environment Protection and Sustainable Development of the AP Vojvodina, Ekofond, UNIDO's Center for Cleaner Production, UNDP Montenegro and UNDP Serbia.

In brief, the project would enable capacity building of industries towards implementation of the cleaner production. Interested industries will be trained by the UNIDO's certified experts. The overall project cycle will last 8 months and will result in development of cleaner production proposals for each industry. The consequence would be increased productivity, decreased energy, fuel and water consumption, and significantly reduced both waste generated and all emissions to environment. Moreover, the Cleaner Production Centre of Serbia is ready to organize training modules in Vrbas. The Municipality of Vrbas generously offered their premises free of charge for this purpose manifesting their support to all segments in the remediation of the Grand Backa canal.
