Western Balkans Environment Programe

The aim of this project is Capacity Building on Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) permitting process. The project involves the preparation of two IPPC permits in a process that simulates as far as practicable that required under the Law on IPPC (Official Gazette of the RS, No. 135/04).   This includes working with the permit applicants, one regional landfill and one pesticide manufacturer, to explain the process and clarify the requirements of the application process for an IPPC permit.  It also involves the provision of guidance and support to the IPPC department within the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the IPPC Department within the Region of Vojvodina at all stages of the process.

The "Environmental Policy Integration and Capacity Building Needs Assessment Report " is prepared during July-August 2008 and finalized in October 2008. The purpose of the report was to assess environmental policy integration in Serbia, to identify needs in institutional capacity building (national and local level) and to indentify thematic areas within which future CB projects will be selected.

Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning together with the UNDP and UNIDO is planning to enhance capacity building of the industries in Vrbas and Kula, by implementing the Cleaner Production (CP) Project for the interested industries. In this respect, the initial presentation of pilot project "Cleaner production" was organized in Belgrade, on November 11^th 2008. Participants were from the Municipality of Vrbas, representatives from Vrbas industries, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Secretariat for Environment Protection and Sustainable Development of the AP Vojvodina, Ekofond,  UNIDO's Center for Cleaner Production, UNDP Montenegro and UNDP Serbia.
