NGO Environmental Movement Vrbas 10 July 2009 participated in a multimedia platform "Water = Life" at the Agora Stage. The platform was the first event at the EXIT, at the opening of this music festival. On this occasion, the project  of NGO and UNDP "Protection and Development of Nature Park Jegrička - ECO consciousness and conscience" was promoted as an integral part of a larger engagement of UNDP in the project "Remediation of the Grand Backa Canal“. The implementation of this project is to provide wastewater utility for Vrbas and Kula towns and pretreated industrial waste water which will be collected in collector and lead to central wastewater treatment plant. The project is aiming to prevent further pollution of one of the most polluted watercourse in Europe - the Grand Backa Canal and at the same time, this is a condition to access the phase of Grand Backa Canal cleaning. The canal brought the basic conditions of life for people in Central Backa and now it became a real threat to public health, especially for residents of Vrbas.

UNDP office in Serbia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Spacial Planning, Department of Water and Soil Protection, completed the first capacity building pilot project, „EU legislation in the area of Water Protection against Pollution with Priority Substances“.

During three weeks, there was a workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of experts / decision makers / institutions on the topic "EU legislation in the field of water and a draft of the technical work" Regulation of the priority substances that affect surface water pollution.Three-day workshop held on 13, 14 and 16 July 2009 in Belgrade on the implementation of the Water Framework Directive and the requirements related to priority substances and priority hazardous substances was attended by about thirty participants. On the first day, there was general discussion of the Water Framework Directive, the second day of the workshop, the discussion was related to the priority pollutants and Directive 2008/105/EC while the discussion on the third day of the workshop was fully dedicated to the draft bylaw and additional technical details of the draft, regulating the quality of surface water in relation to priority substances. The draft bylaw is, in accordance with the comments of participants and in cooperation with the department for the protection of water and soil, prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning in the form of technical reports on the further procedure of bylaw adoption.

 
Workshop on the EU legislation in the field of water protection PDF

The UNDP Serbia in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Serbia, organizes workshop with the aim of capacity building of experts/decision makers/institutions in the field of water protection in the EU legislation. The workshop will be held 13-14 and 16 July 2009 in Belgrade. More specific, in regard to the EU Directives: 2008/105/EC of the European parliament and of the council of 16 December 2008 on environment quality standards in the field of water policy, 2006/11/EC on pollution caused by certain dangerous substances discharged into the aquatic environment of the Community, 75/440/EEC on the quality required of surface water intended for the abstraction of drinking water in the Member States, and the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC with the Guidelines; The workshop will include the discussion about development of the technical part of the by-law - the Regulations on limited values of dangerous substances in waters, to be harmonized with the Decision No. 2455/2001, implementation issues in the EU and the countries in transition and the guidelines and recommendations for its implementation in the Republic of Serbia.
 
Start up of public awareness raising campaign in Vrbas and Kula PDF

bilbord_vrbas.jpgSerbian hot spot team met on December 2, 2009 with representatives of Vrbas and Kula municipalities and media (TV Backa and Radio Vrbas) to present campaign materials and to set the start up of the public awareness raising campaign on Remediation of the Grand Backa Canal. The campaign will consist of two phases, phase 1 will promote the savings of the potable water while phase 2 will promote the connection to the new waste water network (and Central Waste Water Treatment Plant for Vrbas and Kula).
The start date is set for 4 December, by installation of the billboards in Vrbas and Kula centre and town’s entry points and launching project jingle on radio Vrbas and Kula program for one month, each.

Obeležavanje i postavka mesta za posetioce u zaštićenim područjima opštine Vrbas PDF

ravno_selo_smanjeno.jpgUNDP Srbija je u saradnji sa upravljačima zaštićenih područja u opštini Vrbas, JVP Vodama Vojvodine i Pokretom gorana opštine Vrbas, kao i NVO Ekološki pokret Vrbasa, završio omeđavanje parka prirode „Jegrička“ u Ravnom selu i Zmajevu, i spomenika prirode „Čarnok“ kao i postavku info tabli, drvenih klupa i stolova na ovim lokacijama. U okviru realizacije pod projekata ne vladinih organizacija, u opštini Vrbas su organizovane radionice na zaštićenim prirodnim područjima  „Jegrička“ i „Čarnok“.
