Monitoring of surface water and sediments quality in the Grand Backa Canal

The Western Balkan Environmental Monitoring and Field Surveillance Training took place on May 6th–7th 2009, in Montenegro. During this occasion, the UNDP Serbia and the project counterparts from the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the Vrbas municipality, presented latest results from technical monitoring of surface water and sediments quality in the Grand Backa Canal. Monitoring was undertaken during one hydrological season: October – December 2008 and the final draft report was submitted in April 2009. Technical monitoring

Vrbas, October 2008.

Monitoring of surface water and sediments in the Grand Backa Canal in autumn 2008-winter 2009 hydrological season started in October. The objective of this monitoring is to provide guidance data about the quality of water for the CWWTP design and overall data of surface water quality for the relevant authorities. Monitoring will also provide data about the sediments to support development of technical documentation for the “Remediation of the Grand Backa Canal” in Vrbas.

Technical acceptance

Technical acceptance of the constructed Main Waste Water Collector, phase IV.1 (Ch.km 5+999- km 8+057), total length 2 km in Vrbas, started on Monday October 6^th 2008, 12 o'clock.

The committee for technical acceptance has been formally established by the Directorate for Construction Municipality of Vrbas. The process was initiated by the meeting and site visit of committee members, Supervisor „Institute Jaroslav Cerni ", UNDP project coordinator and Municipality of Vrbas Technical coordinator.

The Committee for technical acceptance of the Municipality of Vrbas finalized their work by issuing positive Technical Acceptance document on November 11^th, 2008.
